Inositol is one of the active ingredients in lecithin. It may help in cases of nerve
damage and is required by the neurotransmitters serotonin and acetylcholine.
Inositol supplements are used medically in the treatment of liver problems, depression,
panic disorder, and diabetes. It also aids in the breakdown of fats, helps
in the reduction of blood cholesterol, and helps to prevent thinning hair.

When it is used as feed additive, it is lipotropic, and works in conjunction with
folic acid, vitamins B-6 and B-12, choline, betaine and methionine to prevent the
accumulation of fats In the liver.
