Wanjie Proton Therapy Center (WPTC) is the first radiotherapy center which can offer proton therapy in China. With the support of International Finance Corporation (IFC), Wanjie Group invested over USD40 million in this project.
After many years' investigation, this project proposal was committed to the directorate of Wanjie Group. Sun Qiyu, chairman of Wanjie Group, has visited many proton therapy centers and consulted more than 100 famous radiation physicists and radiation oncologists in the world. In the year of 2002, he decided to import the latest version of advanced proton facility in the world, and it's running for clinical service started by the end of 2004.
A group of outstanding stereotactic radiation oncologists and radiotherapists are working in this center, and 6 radiation oncologists and radiation physicists received a good training at Northeast Proton Therapy Center of MGH in Boston, USA. Three experienced medical engineers came back from Belgium after excellent study. They together will ensure the whole facility in good condition. In addition, some famous professors of proton therapy from America will work in WPTC for a long period of time. Together with the advanced diagnostic equipment, PET, this center will offer outstanding diagnostic and therapeutic service to patients.
The using of proton system will bring us to a new era of cancer treatment in China. Proton therapy will improve tumor local control rate and tumor cure rate in a large extent and bring new hopes to cancer patients.
