According to the different pore diameters of silica gels, these products are categorized into large pore silica gel, macro-pore silica gel, B-type silica gel and fine-pore silica gel. Owing to different pore structures, absorptive performances also vary.
With high relative humidity, macro-pore silica gel has a relatively high absorption capacity. Meanwhile, with low relative humidity, fine-pore silica gel has a higher absorption capacity than macro-pore silica gel.
The pore structure of B-type silica gel is between micro-pore and fine-pore silica gel. Large pore silica gel is usually used as catalyst carrier, matting agent, and toothpaste abrasive. Therefore, appropriate type should be selected according to specific applications.
